The MATCHESFASHION.COM exclusive
collection is all based on Erdem Moralıoğlu’s archive prints. He said it was lovely to revisit past
collections
“I
looked at AW09, SS09 and also found a print that was never used from a spring
collection. I reprinted them on fabrics that I hadn’t used before, such as
stretch cotton for the trousers and cotton poplin for the tops with sweet
little white collars; the original garments were cut in silk satin or washed
silk crepes.”
For Pre-AW13 Moralıoğlu was looking at 1960s Japanese films for
inspiration, he found that had extraordinary saturated colours. So
he developed fabrics, like embroidered plastic, bonding lace with satin and
wool, and used oversized paillettes explaining that they had “something quite cartoonish about
them”. Often, a pre-collection can be a litmus test and allow you to explore
things that you might bring forwards and develop. Erdem says his AW13
collection is a reaction to SS13, which was quite bright and full of weird,
toxic pastels, snakeskin and plastic lace. AW13 is about the colour black,
which he has never really explored.
